about

This recording was made and is released as a fund-raising effort for the SKYLARK IX RECOVERY TRUST.

The Skylark IX Recovery Trust was formed in 2013 to rescue and restore Skylark IX, a Dunkirk Little Ship. This brave little ship rescued over 600 men.

As part of her recovery, others will recover too, learning skills that will help secure them a better future. We look forward to seeing this Little Ship’s transformation and the enjoyment and learning she will bring to very many people.

ALL PROCEEDS GO TO THE SKYLARK IX RECOVERY TRUST.

This is a 'pay what you want' release. You can have the track for free, but, if you are able, we encourage you to be generous for this wonderful cause.

Song Of The Skylark
(McCrone/Jack – Jammy Music MCPS PRS)

It flies in the face of all reason
That Skylark should go to her grave
That we have forgotten the debt that we owe
Forgotten the lives that she saved
You may think they will all have been taken with time
There’s nobody left to remember
But steadfast and sure, her name will endure
Like the poppies of early November

From the beaches of France
To the banks of the Leven
O’er the waves she would dance
Waltzin’ and reelin’
To the music of hope
The song of the Skylark
Never will fade away
Never will die

In the eyes of the boys on the beaches
Who fought with their backs to the sea
A sight for sore eyes, the brave little ship
As she ploughed through the dark waves would be
Through the sounds of the bombs and guns ringin’ out
And the screams of the broken and diein’
Determined and brave, her mission, to save
The bold little Skylark came flyin’

From the beaches of France
To the banks of the Leven
O’er the waves she would dance
Waltzin’ and reelin’
To the music of hope
The song of the Skylark
Never will fade away
Never will die

But there’s more to the song and the story
And verses have still to be sung
Though old soldiers tell of the voyage from hell
Her future is up to the young
So give them the tools for there’s work to be done
A birds broken wings to be mending
With love and with pride, a song of the Clyde
A song of the Skylark ascending

From the beaches of France
To the banks of the Leven
O’er the waves she would dance
Waltzin’ and reelin’
To the music of hope
The song of the Skylark
Never will fade away
Never will die

Don’t let it fade away
Don’t let it die
