THE WATER IS WIDE -(Trad. arr. Bruce William Davies MCPS/PRS) The water is wide, I can't cross o'er Neither have I wings to fly. Build me a boat that can carry two And both shall row, my love and I. There is a ship and she sails the sea She's loaded deep as deep can be But not so deep as the love I'm in And I know not how I'd sink or swim. Oh love is handsome and love is fine It's like a gem, when first it's new But love grows old and waxes cold And fades away like the morning dew The water is wide, I can't cross o'er Neither have I wings to fly. Build me a boat that can carry two And both shall row, my love and I.

ORDINARY FOLK - Bruce William Davies (MCPS/PRS) I can't recall his name, but I remember what he did When he took the time to talk with me when I was just a kid He'd just come off the stage, sweat clinging to his hair I didn't know it at the time, but he was teaching me to care I didn't know it at the time, but he was teaching me to care. Question followed question, questions without end About the songs, about guitars, about my new found friend He told me of his heroes, Paxton and the rest The songs told me to seek the truth, don't stand for any less The songs told me to seek the truth, don't stand for any less. He was a small part of the show, he played "back-up guitar" But to this apprentice picker, he shone out like a star I thought that he was special, but pretty soon I found That he was just an ordinary guy with his feet still on the ground He was just an ordinary guy with his feet still on the ground Ordinary folk do extraordinary things And random acts of kindness give our dreams their wings That night taught me so much I've come to know as true That lives are touched and lives are shaped by all we say and do Lives are touched and lives are shaped by all we say and do. Still I can't recall his name, but I remember what he did When he took the time to talk with me when I was just a kid He'd just come off the stage, sweat clinging to his hair Didn't know it at the time, but he was teaching me to care And I won't forget the time he taught me how to care. And I won't forget the time he taught me how to care.

FLYING COLOURS - Bruce William Davies (MCPS/PRS) Born into a world Uncertain but at peace Born with a spirit Hungry for release Not what you’d call a rebel But she wanted wings to fly The times, they were a-changin’ She was reaching for the sky She didn’t know the answer So she had to question, why? She wanted to make love not war She didn’t want to die She believed that song could change the world She had to play her part “We Shall Overcome” Was the first she learned by heart She was passing With flying colours With her old guitar And flowers in her hair She was passing With flying colours Passing colour Everywhere She learned from what she saw She learned from the past She learned from her children And the truths she knew would last She marched and she petitioned With no hatred in her heart Watched as walls came tumbling down And knew she’d played her part She was passing With flying colours To build a world where people love And nations care She was passing With flying colours Passing colour Everywhere Her friends all thought it so unfair When the doctor broke the news After all that she had fought for This battle she would lose But with courage and with dignity Her back against the wall Her smile told us, “Carry It On” She still inspires us all Now she’s passing With flying colours As her spirit soars And fills the air Now she’s passing With flying colours Passing colour Everywhere Yes she’s passing With flying colours Passing colour Everywhere

Life Begins 04:25
LIFE BEGINS - Bruce William Davies (MCPS/PRS) Well he looked kind of old, with nothin' to say But he listened and watched as the world passed his way And I often would see him as he sat on his own But he never looked lonely, 'though always alone And I felt kind of strange, watchin' him sip his tea And I sensed he knew somethin' that was missin' in me So I searched for the courage to just say "Hello" And he smiled and said "Son, there's somethin' you need to know". And he said... Life begins when you open your eyes As you start every day, as the sun splits the skies When you open your heart and you let your love flow You can touch people you don't even know and life begins, life begins. He said, "I had a job, I once had a wife, A house and some kids, a reason for life But time took them all, I was down for a while But not down and out, that's not my style. For I've seen many people much worse off than me Caught up in the "rat-race," no way to break free So I grasp every day as though it was my last And I look to the future and bury the past." And he said... Life begins when you open your eyes As you start every day, as the sun splits the skies When you open your heart and you let your love flow You can touch people you don't even know and life begins, life begins. Many years have passed on since my friend passed away But I'll never forget him and what he had to say And I'm glad I took time to just say "hello" For, without his words, I never would know That... Life begins when you open your eyes As you start every day, as the sun splits the skies When you open your heart and you let your love flow You can touch people you don't even know and life begins, life begins. When you open your heart and you let your love flow You can touch people you don't even know and life begins Life begins.
