LIFE BEGINS 05:21
LIFE BEGINS (B.W. Davies M.C.P.S.) Well he looked kind of old, with nothin' to say But he listened and watched as the world passed his way And I often would see him as he sat on his own But he never looked lonely, 'though always alone And I felt kind of strange, watchin' him sip his tea And I sensed he knew somethin' that was missin' in me So I searched for the courage to just say "Hello" And he smiled and said "Son, there's somethin' you need to know". And he said... Life begins when you open your eyes As you start every day, as the sun splits the skies When you open your heart and you let your love flow You can touch people you don't even know and life begins, life begins. He said, "I had a job, I once had a wife, A house and some kids, a reason for life But time took them all, I was down for a while But not down and out, that's not my style. For I've seen many people much worse off than me Caught up in the "rat-race," no way to break free So I grasp every day as though it was my last And I look to the future and bury the past." And he said... Many years have passed on since my friend passed away But I'll never forget him and what he had to say And I'm glad I took time to just say "hello" For, without his words, I never would know That... Life begins when you open your eyes As you start every day, as the sun splits the skies When you open your heart and you let your love flow You can touch people you don't even know and life begins, life begins. When you open your heart and you let your love flow You can touch people you don't even know and life begins Life begins.

(YOU’LL ALWAYS BE) AN ANGEL IN MY EYES (Bruce W. Davies/Sandra Davies – MCPS/PRS) This morning, when you looked in the mirror You said, “I don’t like what I see” I must have seen a different picture For what I saw looked perfect to me You wished you looked much younger Like when you were twenty-three I know you were beautiful then But it’s the way you are, I love to see ‘Though you say you’re getting’ no younger You’ll always be an angel in my eyes You know I’m not the first one to tell you To laugh at how the mirror tells lies And, when I say you’re beautiful I’m making no excuses for age For what I see in the mirror Makes me glad we’ve reached this stage Where we’ve lived and loved a lot Been through the high and the low And when I see my face in your eyes Can’t help but love you and I want you to know ‘Though you say you’re getting’ no younger… You melted me the moment I set eyes on you And even more today, though love’s no longer new (Instrumental) And I think of my Father and Mother And the love that filled their life They only had eyes for each other A devoted husband and wife But she was always too fat or too thin Either too dark or too grey But she was always perfect for him And it’s always gonna be that way ‘Though you say you’re getting’ no younger You’ll always be an angel in my eyes You know I’m not the first one to tell you To laugh at how the mirror tells lies ‘Though you say you’re getting’ no younger You’ll always be an angel in my eyes You know I’m not the first one to tell you To laugh at how the mirror tells lies

MAISIE’S SONG (B.W. Davies MCPS/PRS) Wooden floor, a musty smell Little brown chair I remember well Crayoned pictures upon the wall I can’t forget that little hall And the lady who seemed forever old Living the stories she always told Of love that still goes on and on In the place where Auntie Maisie’s gone Collection box upon the stage A piano from another age Little books, with pages torn Some were missing, some just worn And the lady who seemed forever old Living the stories she always told Of love that still goes on and on In the place where Auntie Maisie’s gone I didn’t understand it all way back then When we sang about Zacheus and Fishers of Men But the seeds were sown in that little room And I remember when…every now and again Sometimes I wander, sometimes I stray Sometimes I’ve been so far away Sometimes in deep despair and gloom My thoughts return to that little room And the lady who seemed forever old Living the stories she always told Of love that just goes on and on In the place where Auntie Maisie’s gone Yes that lady who seemed forever old Living the stories she always told Still makes me want to journey on To the place where Auntie Maisie’s gone

UNDER A JERSEY MOON (B.W. Davies MCPS/PRS) I came here last night When the moon shone so bright It seemed heaven was here by my side Saw beautiful places, warm friendly faces By an ocean, moonlit and wide But an ocean can’t go on forever And I know I’ll be crossing it soon And in all that I do, I’m thinking of you Under a Jersey moon Under a Jersey moon Under a Jersey moon In all that I do, I’m thinking of you Under a Jersey moon I watched the sun rise Washed sleep from my eyes And then took a stroll by the shore Had coffee on the Boardwalk Wished that we could talk And found myself missing you more But this loneliness won’t last forever For I know I’ll be holding you soon And in all that I do, I’m thinking of you Under a Jersey moon Under a Jersey moon Under a Jersey moon In all that I do, I’m thinking of you Under a Jersey moon In all that I do, I’m thinking of you Under a Jersey moon

LOCH LOMOND 04:45
LOCH LOMOND ( Trad. arr. B.W. Davies M.C.P.S.) By yon bonnie banks and by yon bonnie braes Where the sun shines bright on Loch Lomond Where me and my true love were ever wont tae gae On the bonnie, bonnie banks o' Loch Lomond. CHORUS Ye'll tak the high road and I'll tak the low road And I'll be in Scotland afore ye But me and my true love will never meet again On the bonnie, bonnie banks o' Loch Lomond. 'Twas there that we parted in yon shady glen On the steep, steep sides o' Ben Lomond Where, in purple hue, the heiland hills we'd view And the moon comin' oot in the gloamin'. CHORUS Ye'll tak the high road ... The wee birdies sing and the wild flo'ers spring And in sunshine the waters are sleepin' But the broken he'rt it kens nae second spring again And the waefu' ne'r cease fae their greetin'. CHORUS Ye'll tak the high road ... CHORUS Ye'll tak the high road ... On the bonnie, bonnie banks o' Loch Lomond.

SMOKY MOUNTAIN WISHES (B.W. Davies MCPS/PRS.) If I could bottle up the scent of sunrise in the Smokies I’d do it for you; I’d give it to you Or paint the song of birds at dawning in the Smokies I’d do it for you, only you If I could sing the red of poppies in the Smokies I’d do it for you; I’d do it for you Or share with you the love of friends back in the Smokies I’d do it for you, only you But all we have are wishes And if I could ever make a wish come true It’s that somewhere down the road we’ll be together And someday I can share this all with you.

about

12th May 2009 was a special night. It was a night spent with friends, following a day spent with “family”. It was also a night when we all experienced a little bit of magic. I will be eternally grateful!

This recording is a souvenir of it and, except for minimal editing; it’s pretty much how it happened. It’s not perfect. I was tempted to take out more songs because of imperfections and the emotion of the night; however, if you’re happy with reality, I am too!

Thanks to Rev. Miki Vanderbilt and her friends at West Emory Presbyterian Church, Knoxville, TN for making it happen, to the audience who came from far and wide, to my “Tennessee Mom & Dad”, Janet and Tom McLane and to my “big sister”, Laurene. Last, but never least, thanks to my wife, Sandra, the love of my life.

Recorded on a Roland Edirol Portable Digital Recorder.
I used the beautiful Collings D2H guitar I owned at the time.
